What Is A Cat D Write Off And Will Insurers Insure As Fully Comp?

A Cat D is considered repairable and doesn’t need a special inspection afterwards, unlike other categories of write-off. It’s just written off because the cost of repairs would be too high compared with its value.
Quite often it’s an easily done repair job, like a buddy of mine who bought a Cat D written off because some scrote had tipped brake fluid over the paintwork and a full professional respray would have cost too much. He’s a sprayer & did it himself – result, lovely car for a fraction of its book price.
There’s no reason why insurers shouldn’t cover it, as long as you tell them.
